Reddit turns 20, and it's going big on AI

The "AI" has been going big on reddit in the last 2 years, and not the good kind. Reddit was full of bots, but at least the previous generation would just upvote/downvote en-masse and c/p replies from other threads. Now it's been weaponised with llm-generated stuff and it's getting harder and harder to figure out who is a real human and who's an llm-driven bot.

Couple that with the echo-chambering that's going on in every social platform, and you have the perfect recipe for extreme toxicity. The political stuff adds fuel on top of everything else, and it's happening on every sub. It's worse than it was in the 2015-16 campaign when the donald got to the top of the platform.

> as a user, you also know that the link will point you to another place on Reddit instead of some SEO-driven garbage.

This sentence certainly makes a bold assumption.

Reddit is still pretty decent for niche topics, but I'm not sure how much I can trust it anymore - although, granted, that's true of most search results online.

It's wild how much more useful Youtube has gotten, especially when it comes to videos updated before a given timeframe. Our home has some older appliances, and I've begrudingly started searching Youtube for repair content over text-only results.
