Excellent post, the kind of thing I keep coming back to HN for. Information technology plays such an interesting role in the human ecosystem. It's very easy to get caught up in the tools and forget what part they play in our life and minds. This was a really nuanced perspective on that and as a consequence of looking at LLMs from that point of view provided some great musings on their dangers, opportunities, and optimal use. Much, much more useful than the simple "efficient or not" debates.
