Ask HN: When will YC do a batch in Europe and/or Asia?

3•HSO•7mo ago
In light of recent developments that I think most people will be sufficiently aware of, no need to rehash here, wouldn´t this be the time to do batches in Europe and/or Asia? I would imagine the YC network is both large and international enough that you have the people who could mentor locally.

Speaking strictly for myself, while I still find the program very attractive, I am not willing to risk bureaucratic border nightmares, Salvadorean dungeons, or other harassments for it.

While I wish Europe or Asia had more direct competitors offering similar terms like YC, it is what it is and so, are you going to do it? If so, when? If not, why not?

Obv this is just a suggestion, but I think it would be good for YC too because for sure Europe and Asia are going to build their own ecosystems and internet economies with new motivation/urgency now so this would be good for everybody.

Probably not soon. There's still ludicrous amounts of money flowing in the US-based VC system and I'd imagine YC would rather focus on that until it's dead as a doormouse. I'm someone that really supports the Asian/European entrepreneur circle, but its still hard to overstate how much capital is flowing through the US right now.

(disclaimer: I have no affiliation with YC, just startup culture)

rar00•7mo ago
That's an orthogonal concern IMO. Running a batch in Europe is about tapping into another source of opportunities. There are plenty of founders that won't or aren't able to attend YC in SF
