Has AI made "learn to code" obsolete?

No.

Yeah if you see the generated output of a lot of coding llms you realise without direction from someone with knowhow they quickly end up creating a mess.

Binary/cpu instructions -> assembly -> fortran -> c/pascal -> c++/java/python -> english.

Syntax has been always drifting toward english. The newest programming language is english.

Does this mean someone will be able to just use claude and code an entirely new web browser from scratch without knowing any programming language?

I doubt an experienced programming team could each use claude to develop a new web browser from scratch.

If you dont know how to program properly, claude isnt going to get very big or complicated.

I agree to some extent, the average coders/programmers will definitely have a hard time finding jobs, but maybe they will start their own businesses instead.

We think of SQL as a high level language, an abstraction. We need to think about Code with LLMs similar to that as I still find LLMs to not be able to be completely autonomous at present. There will be the need to debug understand the underlying execution at a low level just like in SQL or any other high level language.

There will be a requirement for humans to find better ways than LLMs and sometimes we might find frugal and ingenious ways to do stuff for which LLMs had taken the average solutions found in their datasets.

no, AI hasn't made "learn to code" obsolete its just made AI part of "learn to code". This is like asking if microwaves have made cooking obsolete because now the average person can make a burrito using only a microwave and a frozen burrito.
