Absolutely. There is currently no accountability for companies making bad decisions. They can hire people make bad decisions and then let them go. This feels wrong in a system where worker rights are supposedly championed. At-will employment has an inherent asymmetry that benefits employers. Individuals more often than not have a harder time quitting and finding a new job rather than staying, but companies have an incentive to try things and then do layoffs if it didn't work out.

At the very least this is grounds for never trusting or being loyal to companies. Why should the individual sit back and let companies get the upper hand like this? Smart employees would also play the game and try to get hired and do the minimum so long as they're getting paid. There's no loyalty after all. To add insult to injury companies are always talking about trust, loyalty and have all kinds of silly culture where employees have to pretend to be excited and pretend to be a good employee that loves the company.
