It looks like you have to pay to see the article so I can’t look at the details, but the author of “strangers in their own land” who spent time among rural Trump supporters in Louisiana basically said, that they knew that Republicans were responsible for selling out there land to factories that polluted their natural environment (that they were angry about) and _because_ it was the government politicians who did that(who happened to be Republican), they were vulnerable to the Republican argument that government was the problem.
