And two positives can't make a negative, sure sure.

I'm not sure we in the West realize how absurd this is. We make fun of Russia, North Korea, Iran propaganda. But how is this any different ?
sigwinch•7mo ago
One difference is that we all know how Trump should act if he’s innocent: he should be mad that he’s mentioned at all. He should direct the Attorney General to clear his good name. The video from Epstein's camera-studded mansion should show him upstanding. But instead the AG claims that all that video is evidence of crimes against children —- in a twist implying that none of the victims are entitled to use it in court, or for an innocent man to clear his name.

Maybe it’s not a coverup, but to shrug here is to accept his guilt. And we get to see who shrugs.

gerash•7mo ago
I think JFK and Nixon fate were not crazy conspiracies either after all.

The media in the west is also no different from arms of state propaganda unfortunately.

jfengel•7mo ago
What a remarkable collection of double-binds.

Everybody believes that the list exists, and implicates their political enemies. Everyone is aware that a fake suicide was predictable.

Democrats believe that the list includes members of the present administration, and does not trust the administration to make this decision. Many Republicans believe that the list includes members of past Democratic administrations, and is extremely suspicious that they would be exonerated.

So even if this is the absolute truth, nobody believes it, and there's no way they could ever believe it.

sigwinch•7mo ago
This doesn’t cut both ways. Scrambling after Patel failed to deliver a satisfying report, Bondi reassigned one thousand FBI officials to comb through the case. That’s the same scale as the FBI response to Jan 6. So far as I can tell, it’s the most personnel for a case that’s now guaranteed to never see a charge. Taxpayers should get their money back.
techpineapple•7mo ago
This isn’t entirely partisan, Democrats believe the list includes members of past Democratic administrations as well, specifically Clinton.

I mean, I think many members of both sides (voters, not politicians) are ready to clean house and don’t really care who is implicated at this point. MAGA voters would probably try to protect Trump but probably wouldn’t care who else was implicated.
