Show HN: StopAddict – Gamified app to help you quit addictions

2•skyzouw•4h ago
Hi HN,

I’ve built StopAddict, a simple web app to help people quit addictions by gamifying the process. Each day you resist your addiction, you gain XP and level up, transforming recovery into a daily game loop rather than a vague goal.

Features: – Track your addiction-free streak visually – Earn XP and levels each day you resist – Customizable goals to match what you want to quit – Daily dashboard with clear progress and streak stats

I created this because most addiction tracking apps either feel clinical or lack the sense of progression needed to keep motivation high. By making it a clear daily challenge with visual progression, I hope to make staying clean more engaging for people who need structure.

It’s built with Next.js, MongoDB, and Tailwind. The backend is designed to be minimal and fast, while the frontend is optimized for mobile use.

You can try it here: https://www.stopaddict.net/

I’d love your feedback on: – Whether the gamification approach makes sense or feels too trivial for something serious – What features would be most helpful for people trying to quit habits or addictions – UI/UX clarity and performance on both desktop and mobile

Thanks for checking it out.

Please stop spamming this. You've posted about this 14 times in the last 2.5 weeks, and another app multiple times as well. If people are not responding, your got your feedback - the interest is not there.

Since "gamification" is just a fancy word for a strategy to make something as addictive as possible, this appears to be a method that, at best, is just substituting one addiction for another.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, if the substitute addiction is less harmful than the one being swapped out. But it's not actually addressing addiction itself.
