In times of great prosperity when new opportunities are appearing, there are positions at some companies where pay and perks plus working environment put them way above most.

In some of the most idyllic situations the opportunities are so good and worth striving for, but it still can seem like climbing a corporate ladder is like clawing your way up. Maybe more so than other places.

A certain amount of back-stabbing is not unheard of when jockeying for some of the real cush positions.

You think that's ugly? Well when prosperity is receding, even more determined claws come out to pull you down as far as possible.

The main takeaway of this piece seems to be that a large number of the layoffs are focused on people who either:

1. Recently took medical leave 2. Acted as a whistleblower to HR (reporting workplace harassment or similar) 3. Had a documented disability

Even if this wasn't HN, I'd say its pretty hard to feel positive about anything that company is doing right now.
