Ask HN: (Retro web q) What happened to the myway.com site?

2•fuzztester•7mo ago
I had used it back in the day for a while, and it seemed to be a nice portal at the time.

After that I lost track of it.

They tried to copy Yahoo (marketing was "Yahoo is toast") with minimal design (very fast page loads) and less ads. Yahoo was full of banner ads and kept adding more and more. If I recall correct they used text ads, similar to Google Adsense instead. That's something that came up around the time and was still in the infancy. Could've worked but myway tried to cover too many product categories. It was the time of portals where a portal homepage had to have everything from news to fashion to astrology. I worked in that industry but didn't use myway.

"2002, The Excite Network launched an online portal called MyWay.com, which replicated many of Yahoo's popular features without advertisements, fees, and intrusive privacy policies. In the same year, the company launched several entertainment products, such as, SmileyCentral and PopularScreensavers, and changed its name to Focus Interactive. In November 2015, the MyWay site posted, "After many years, we have decided to shut down the MyWay website. " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindspark_Interactive_Network

I miss it too, especially the news - just a list of headlines in categories, everything customizable. Would love to find a current equivalent.

Thanks for the answers, guys. I was not sure I would get any, this being an old topic, but decided to post my question anyway.

Cheers.
