Show HN: Remove metadata from images and documents online

1•Gravyt1•7h ago
Hi! I’m Jules ESNAULT, a student and developper. I built RemoveMD a free, privacy-focused web tool that lets you strip hidden metadata (like EXIF from photos or document properties) without keeping your files to a server.

Why I Built This

Most people don’t realize how much sensitive data hides in their files: Photos → GPS location, camera model, timestamps Documents → Author details, edit history, hidden comments Many online tools claim to remove metadata but store your files. I wanted something fast and privacy-focused.

How RemoveMD Works

You uploads, I don't store – Your files are processed and directly sent back to you without being saved in server-side Supports common formats – JPEG, PNG, PDF and many more. Instant results – Drag, drop, download. Done.

Who’s It For?

Privacy-conscious users – Remove hidden data before sharing files online.

Journalists/Researchers – Sanitize documents securely.

Anyone using social media – Post photos without leaking location or device info.

Future Plans

This started as a learning project, but I’m exploring:

Expanding file support (MP3, MP4, Office files).

A lightweight API for developers.

More privacy tools – Maybe checksum generators or encryption helpers?

Blog content – Guides on metadata risks and digital hygiene.

Open Source? Maybe.

The code isn’t public yet, but I’m considering it and I would like in the future publish the majority of the source code.

Why Free?

I do this to learn and solve a problem. If it is useful, users can purchase pro features, as the free limitation is very high, it guarantees free use for everyone. For now, just happy to help!

Try it and let me know what you think! https://www.removemd.com

P.S. Feedback welcome! I’m especially curious what formats/tools would help you most.
