I guess it depends on the person but for many corporate folks "I took this job so I don't have to bag groceries..." would be a thought.

https://dol.ny.gov/labor-statistics-new-york-city-region

> Private sector jobs in New York City rose by 57,100 over-the-year to 4,248,300 in May 2025. Gains occurred in private education and health services (+63,800), information (+3,200), and trade, transportation, and utilities (+600). Losses occurred in natural resources, mining, and construction (-4,100), professional and business services (-2,900), financial activities (-1,400), leisure and hospitality (-1,100), manufacturing (-800), and other services (-200).

> The city's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.8 percent in May, down 0.2 percent from April and and a decrease of 0.4 percent from May 2024. New York State's rate was 4.0 percent in May 2025. The share of the city's working age population (16+) who were either employed or looking for a job stood at 61.7 in May.

St Louis Fed FRED Graph shows the stark historical relevance: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/NYUR

Amazon's actions lead me to believe they are having labor sourcing challenges, based on publicly available labor data. Amazon corp folks will put up with it as long as they want or need the job.

Amazon seems like a great place to work--why not volunteer full-time?
abeppu•6h ago
I wonder: will there be a noticeable increase in the rate of mistakes on grocery orders this week?
