Lab-grown sperm and eggs just a few years away, scientists say

It seems there are ways to make this legal. [1] It's not really editing so to speak but one could define the genes at creation. Will this set the foundation for making many science fiction movies come true? Pre-defining a persons role in society, predispositions, etc... Superman Man of Steel, or making super-soldiers (fast growing and disposable?) and so on?

Artificial sperm and eggs means no legal record of birth and no parents that are aware of conception. How does HN feel about disposable humans? One has to think like a psychopath in other words all corporations to understand why I asked.

Sadly 'disposable humans' is the first thing I thought of in the current tech dystopia. No in a clone soldiers sense but in a computing resource sense:

'Imagine the practical applications and energy savings'

How do artificial sperm and eggs mean no legal record of birth and no parents ware of conception?

Don't you need an artificial womb for that?

Bender•7mo ago
Those exist as well. [1] We probably will not know about any of these shady patterns until there is a leaker but with robots and private AI one could reduce the number of potential leakers assuming this is not already a thing.

Teever•7mo ago
When you say 'those exist as well' you seem to be implying that they are ready to use technology that has been thoroughly tested end to end and all the bugs worked out, but that isn't the case.

We're still a decade or two away from artificial wombs getting to that point.
