I assume, though it is unstated in the article, that to physically support the tissue while it is sliced it needs to be frozen solid? Or is it the chemical preparation which turns the carcas solid?

Which part of the process described here is novel? Is it the first time that someone integrated a slicer with a microscope? Or is it that they built a faster one than previously available?

Not an expert in this field, but from their website https://www.hfnl.ustc.edu.cn/detail?id=23165 They seemed to have developed a vibration-based slicer scanner 'Blockface-VISoR' to scan 600μm 3d image but cut 400μm each time repeatly to reconstruct full 3d image. It says it's hydrogel treated sample.
