It would have been a more interesting article had the author waited to see the latest film first.

The movie is a distraction, past a certain point. Superman been a problem since forever, it's the problem Alan Moore grappled with as a writer and what drove Garth Enis to make superhero comics. As the author notes, it's why we have postmodern edgy "capekiller" franchises like The Boys and Invincible. Superman makes for a cool hero on a superficial level, but represents an uncanny villain for audiences with media literacy.

Superman's backstory has been rewritten too many times to count. I'm sure the new movie will make plenty of new retcons. Superman exists today for the same reason he did 100 years ago, the same reason Stan Lee got out of bed and the same reason we still get garbage Marvel flicks. These companies need money, and we're all gullible soulless creeps who need a superhuman feel-good story to enrich our solipsistic and deeply immoral lives. cha-ching Do you want popcorn and tickets to F1 with that?

This comment, too, would have more to say had the author seen the movie.

I'm not sure I love this trend of opining on an obvious and current topic without reflecting on a big piece of it. It feels like the intent is to get out one's preloaded opinion first, so as not to have to address the issue that it might not be correct in light of current information.
