Note that this entirely based on share price. While I am but an armchair "expert" a lot of the technology businesses that they are comparing too feel inflated due to AI buzz. This is not to put down AI or what they are doing but the sense of 'irrational exuberance' might be at play.

Now if this was based on the quality of Cooks ability to lead Apple, I would simply say they haven't had a huge hit since Apple Watch some 10 years ago. Cruising nicely in terms of sales and incremental improvements but nothing that has others desperately chasing them.

wsc981•6h ago
Was Apple Watch a huge hit? Like did it make a lot of money for Apple?

I feel the last huge hit was the iPad.

bentocorp•5h ago
Yes it may be entirely based upon AI buzz, but there should be no reason that Apple also couldn't have inflated stock due to AI buzz.

For example, I have questioned why Nvidia has been able to be the unchallenged leader in AI graphics cards.

With Apple's silicon knowledge, access to leading edge TSMC fabs and volume purchasing power (due to selling millions of devices) – Apple could and perhaps should be selling unique processors to AI companies, and also using them themselves – taking a huge amount of revenue and mindshare from Nvidia.

I would say the first laptops with Apple Silicon were a huge hit. They’re from 2020.

bigyabai•5h ago
They didn't turn around the Mac's market share woes. It's a "hit" that still plays second, third, fourth fiddle to the iPhone, iPad and App Store. Plus the design team left to found Nuvia, ouch.
