On arriving in France to start a new job, I was surprised to find that the French don't roll-over to Monday those bank holidays which land on the weekend. Some years it turns out that quite a few do, and that's know as une année du patron.

Neither does Germany, and here some corrupt politicians are also discussing to scrap public holidays. Same scum everywhere...

"He said the various bank holidays had turned the month of May into a gruyère - a Swiss cheese full of holes"
Can't say I understand how scrapping the holidays cuts the national debt, but points for the fun analogy from the politician proposing this.
