DuckDuckGo Is Down

26•GavinAnderegg•14h ago
I was having intermittent search failures this morning, but now every query results in this error:

Sorry, we ran into an error displaying these results. Click here to try again.
I tried looking for an official status page, but couldn't find one. That said, it looks like others are having the same issue: https://downdetector.com/status/duckduckgo/

EDIT: They've now updated the search results page with the following after it returns no results:

    We’re experiencing an outage.
Thanks for your patience while we get our ducks in a row!

Came here as my searches were failing (UK)
alias_neo•14h ago
Same (also UK).
csmattryder•14h ago
Got DDG set as the default search engine in Firefox.

Saw the error, immediately typed "duckduckgo status" into the address bar and searched - in DDG.

Not my smartest moment.

!ai are you down?
extua•13h ago
I didn't realise bang operators work even when DuckDuckGo itself is down.

That's pretty neat, I don't need to change the search in the address bar, just add '!g' to every search to seamlessly redirect to Google until DuckDuckGo is back.

MaikaDiHaika•14h ago
I did the exact same thing! Yeah, not my smartest moment either.
Mordisquitos•13h ago
Haha. I only avoided that reflexive action because my reflex when a large online service is down is to start typing 'news.ycom...' in my address bar and then scroll down to search :-)

Of course hilarity will ensue the day I experience a HN outage and wish to see if anyone has made a thread about it...

jscohn85•14h ago
"We’re experiencing an outage" in Colombia, too
GavinAnderegg•13h ago
Looks like it's back up now!
