Interestingly, this was one of the first use cases for wearable computers. It's mentioned in "When Things Start To Think" (~1997) by Neil Gershenfeld.

All fun and games until they block out a panel van covered in ads.

FA*NG will soon swoop in and prevent this from reaching consumers. Then they'll use the bones to introduce ad substitution.

This lede is so quaint; it's an observation that belongs in old sci-fi like Colossus The Forbin Project: Adblocking glasses haha, how clever!

So what will go in the void created by the glasses?

This appliance is set to usurp physical space with an overlay of virtual space, which should be expected not only to occlude the physical but also compete with or contradict the physical.

The implications on monitoring and control of thought, dividing classes, and political manipulation are serious. Reality will disappear.

It's already the case that ever computing device is a hub for data collection and imposition on behavior.

AR glasses are personal vision monitoring and filtering devices.

Consider that the C-suites and their supplicants and handlers will soon not see the same world as those outside their vision service.

That Zuckerberg is building data centers on the scale of Manhattan island is the harbinger of a very messed up world to come.

I’ve been wanting a “mark as spam” button that hovers over every person, which, if clicked, then filters out any noise they make and replaces them visually with a potted plant (to avoid collisions). I look forward to this being available.
