Ask HN: Funding – Should we wait for this fund to invest in us?

3•mehra-vaayushop•7h ago
Genuine advise needed...A fund wants to invest...they said they target 3-4 weeks to decide...It's stretching to 3 months already with no final date in sight. They say - they have got deal flow & evaluating more...

Genuine advise needed - should we wait? We already raised 75% already of our target funds...We truly want to move to customer acquisition now...though we find this will be smart money if they invest...but we don't want to wait & put effort further on fundraise beyond a hard date.

What should we do

I don't have first-hand experience but read that VC and funds rarely say direct 'no'. It's often a variation of waiting and evaluating. If they were eager they can get a contract/LOI done in a couple of days.

Tx...what should be our response? We provided all docs, again more docs..again more

it's time cost for us & we want to rather focus on customers now catch is - I like the team of this fund..which makes this smart money.. tbh - I am also like that we already spent a lots of time already...so let's wrap to a conclusion

You're not going to get one.

You reach out every few months with updates, especially if those updates include the KPIs they're looking for to invest. If you don't know what those KPIs are, then your initial conversation with them was too hand-wavy.

If you have traction and you continue to gain traction, follow up every few months with a "This is where we are" email, if you'd like. But if you're waiting for them to do something before you make whatever move you were going to make after they made their decision, you're going to be waiting for a long time.

Interesting take...tx...Do you suggest putting a time cap from our side at least for this conversation?
