Years ago I was reading a book, could have been Hunter S Thompson or similar, and he was talking to someone about not just being 'not racist' but the need to be actively 'anti-racist' - at the time time I (like the author) didn't really get it - 'I'm not racist myself, so how can I be part of the problem?'.
As the years go on, I finally understand it.
It is amazing to watch my son walk this path without prompting from my wife or I, he actively calls out kids who are racist/homophobic/misogynist/transphobic around him (both in person and online) and has moved on from friends who parrot lines they pick up from YouTube or TikTok.
