“ Bondi also told president at the meeting that Justice decided to not release more Jeffrey Epstein documents because of the presence of child pornography and the need to protect victims”

So I’m certainly not suggesting make child pornography public, but the justice system must have a way it handles delicate evidence like this right? How do they try other child pornography cases?

sjsdaiuasgdia•6mo ago
Yeah. You redact any information that can be used to identify the victims. Happens all the time.
treetalker•6mo ago
Imagine Bondi or any other prosecutor stating that sex crimes against children will not be prosecuted because doing so would require the disclosure or use of child-pornography material. Nonsense.

This really underscores Bondi's lack of values and her pattern of saying and doing whatever is most expedient to benefit herself. Instead of doing what is best for the victims (an important part of being a prosecutor) and what is best for the American public and America's governmental institutions (an important part of being the US Attorney General), she is helping to insulate and hide those responsible (likely including her boss). That is the same type of behavior that her underlings at DOJ are encouraged or commanded to prosecute as conspiracies or aiding and abetting crimes. Shame!

sjsdaiuasgdia•6mo ago
Trump could not have been Epstein's close friend for so long without having some idea that Epstein was into some extremely fucked up shit.

Why didn't Trump ever say anything?

Why did Trump stay friends with him?

dttze•6mo ago
Old rich pedophile is friends with other old rich pedophile. Many such cases.
jfengel•6mo ago
The list of people who were close friends with him, but said nothing, is extremely long. That is indeed fucked up, but it's not a crime.

Actually participating in child rape is a crime.

If we get a full list, we will have to have a good hard look at a lot of people we otherwise respected. But actual crimes will take precedence.

sjsdaiuasgdia•6mo ago
"It's fucked up but not illegal to not say anything" is incredibly dismissive of the moral obligation to stop your pedophile "friend".
jfengel•6mo ago
I wouldn't say it's "dismissive", just that it's of secondary priority to the things that are actual crimes. They can be prosecuted, and must be immediately. Introspection and recrimination will take more time.
sjsdaiuasgdia•6mo ago
I don't think we have to wait for all related crimes to have been prosecuted before we ask the people close to Epstein what they knew and why they did nothing.

We have enough people in the country to pursue both simultaneously.

Trump should answer for why he was so close with Epstein for so long while saying and doing nothing about the extensive crimes he was aware of.

andrewinardeer•6mo ago
In my country, the Premier of the most populous state resigned because he failed to declare a bottle of wine that was gifted to him.

In your country the President is named in files relating to a person who was a known child sex trafficker, a convicted felon and a proven sexual assailant.

You should be on the streets en masse.

jfengel•6mo ago
We have been. It didn't do any good.

This person was voted into office less than a year ago, despite the felony conviction and proof of being a sexual assailant. If the election were held again today, it would likely have no different outcome.

This news suggests that there may be yet one more thing to lay at his feet, something his supporters claim to be horrified by, but we'll see. I suspect it will not change anything.

So we could go out on the streets, but it won't change anything. He won't be embarrassed into resigning. The Congress won't impeach, much less convict. We could bring the economy to a halt, but that would be cutting off our noses to spite our faces -- and it still wouldn't change the President of the United States.

If you think we're not outraged, I assure you, we're outraged. We face tens of millions of people who are also outraged -- who think that we are woke leftist monsters, and are literally willing to forgive a pedophile if it provokes us. I don't know what to do, but right now reassuring the Australians that we're upset isn't our top priority.

k310•6mo ago
Simple. He'll just change his name, and Donald Trump then refers to someone else. The Supreme Court is likely to uphold the change. Suggestions:

John Barron, John Miller, Carolin Gallego, David Dennison (since he has already used them.) [0]
