Show HN: I built a tool to fight YouTube clickbait with AI summaries

https://www.peekatube.com/en
2•project_stain•6mo ago
Hi HN,

I built this to solve my own problem: wasting time on clickbait YouTube videos that bury one minute of value in a 20-minute runtime.

My solution is Peekatube, a simple tool that gets you the key info first.

- The Core Feature: It pulls a video's transcript and generates an AI summary so you know if it's worth watching.

- It's Fast: With the help of a proxy and gemini-2.5-flash-lite, getting the full transcript and summary takes only 3-4 seconds on average.

This is a live beta. The ultimate goal is to build this into a Chrome extension that works right on the YouTube homepage.

I would love to hear your brutally honest feedback. What's the one thing you'd add or change?

I'll be here all day to answer questions. Thanks!

Interesting idea. I was expecting a page to explore videos directly but it shows me the text box to paste link and get summary. The same could be done via chatgpt, I may try if I get to experience how my youtube search/explore is changed when I use your app.

Brilliant. Thanks again for the feedback, this is incredibly helpful.

You've perfectly described the ultimate vision here. The goal for Peekatube is to become a Chrome extension that completely changes your YouTube Browse, just like you imagined.

And you've given me a fantastic idea for how to bridge that gap right now: creating a sandboxed demo on the landing page that simulates that exact integrated experience.

That way, people can instantly interact with it and see the value, no link-pasting required. It's the perfect showcase.

This is exactly the feedback I needed. Thank you!
