Blowing the whistle on domestic (family) court

2•kylebenzle•6h ago
The US domestic (family) court system, in Ohio in particular, has become functionally corrupt for two reasons.

1) Judges are elected and can now receive unlimited campaign contributions, vacations and gifts, the vast majority coming from the lawyers and "family" law firms they are ment to be judging objectively.

2) All records are "sealed" so judges and courts have zero accountability to anyone other than their own club of lawyers (bar association) and of course the very people that paid to to get them where they are.

The Ohio bar association has co-opted the domestic court system and made it their own $billion/year revenue generating stream. The judges profit from kickbacks in the form of campaign contributions every four years from the very attorneys they are supposed to be judging against This is not just the appearance of corruption it is a system built on corruption.

This means the judges only incentive is to judge in a way that is most in line with their best interest. In practice this means that what little data we have shows that almost every time the judge finds in favor of whichever attorney donated the most money to his campaign and is why unlike states around it that have 50/50 default custody Ohio remains 100% default custody to the mother in over 85% of divorces and with sole custody to just one parent.

This has been going on for the better part of 20 years and continues for one simple reason despite it being a horrible in every way, the judges are getting paid off.

I'm blowing the whistle, working on websites, printing signs, sending out mailers, court watching and taking notes on these corrupt attorneys, doing anything and everything I can to get the word out that the Franklin County Ohio domestic court system in particularly has been corrupted by a small group of judges, mainly Judge James Brown. I'm doing everything I can to get the word out about these evil and corrupt judges, the biggest hurdle seems to be how much money they are making and that people believe that once a lawyer gets rich and powerful enough they're uncorruptible, which is the exact opposite of the truth. The judges are the ones running a corrupt, pay to play, system of kickbacks with themselves at the top. The judges are the top lawyers and the lawyers are pieces of shit.

They are literally horse trading children like they're chips at the casino and what they've done to a generation of young people and millennial fathers is pure evil.

The regulations can be found here: https://www.bpc.ohio.gov/judicial-candidates

I have no idea what OP is talking about, but if there is something out of whack from the regs, my recommendation is to cite sources and events and contrast them with the regulations.

AnimalMuppet•5h ago
I believe OP's point is that the problem is the regs - that the regs are such that judges can be completely within the regs and yet corrupt.

Like you, I have no idea whether it's true...

kylebenzle•5h ago
And I am unaware of what, "regs" you are trying to address, but the current situation is clear, without trying to change the subject:

Domestic judges are elected positions that can and do solicit campaign contributions from local attorneys.

At the end of that campaign extra funds can and do end up in the pockets of the judges themselves. This is equivalent to lawyers directly paying off the judges.

The way an attorney described it to me is that every attorney worth their salt immediately starts making the maximum contributions to every judge on the bench every 4 years.

What "regs" do you need to show this? My guess though is that you do know the truth, you are an attorney and your comment is just trying to distract from what's going on.

codingdave•4h ago
Well, which is it? Are there unlimited contributions and gifts going to campaigns, as you originally said, or is there an informal practice to hit the regulatory limitations, as your comment said?

You need to cite evidence and cite the laws that support your complaint. Otherwise you just sound like you are angrily ranting.

I'm not trying to distract, I gave you a link to all the info to help you cite your sources. I'm encouraging you to put together a cohesive argument to support your claims so you have an opportunity to prove what you are trying to say. If you choose not to do so, that is on you.

chollida1•5h ago
If you are blowing the whistle then now would be the time to present the evidence you have to back up your claims.

codingdave•2h ago
I'm not sure you are understanding what evidence is. This site is all anecdotes and hearsay, with a couple links to some code. None of that is evidence. All of it looks like ChatGPT summaries. And it doesn't even cover Ohio, it covers one county. There is no comparison to other states and counties to gauge whether this is a hotbed of corruption or just the way the system works. If your concern is exactly that - how the system works - then you need to specifically state the problem and show where in the law it stems from. There is a link that says it goes to Ohio Bill 14, but it does not - it just goes to the home page for the legislature. Your link to filing a grievance returns a 404.

Dude, we're actually supportive of you blowing the whistle if something is wrong, but AI-generated content that doesn't even speak to your concerns about judges (it just throws scores up with zero context) is a far cry from proving allegations of corruption.

Yes, that's part of why young men are avoiding marriage and having a family like the plague.

The system is stacked against them and its best to avoid the whole mess to begin with.

FrankWilhoit•5h ago
Yeah, why don't they try not being abusers in the first place? There's a thought.
kylebenzle•5h ago
Yes, 85% of men in Ohio are abusers, that's why they've lost their children.

You sound super smart ;)

Urahandystar•4h ago
All men are abusers? This seems like a wild take. Marriage can end for a number of reasons not all of them abusive.
msgodel•4h ago
I love how the assumption is that everyone is abusive. This is exactly why no one will talk to each other anymore (other than actual abusers/psychos who don't care.)

Whatever personal policy resulted in expressing this idea is not only broken for you but it's literally tearing everything else apart. You should try to figure out what that is or avoid posting about this topic.

nsksl•4h ago
Why even have a court? After all if they take you there it must be because you’re guilty. No need for a trial.
kylebenzle•5h ago
It took nearly a whole generation for young men to see what was going on but I think a lot of figured it out!

I know I'm doing my part to tell every young man I know to not have kids in the state of Ohio until they fix this evil and broken system.

My son has told me something similar, that he would never get married or have kids just because he's seen how stupid this whole thing is but I'm sure there's a lot like him :-(

BobaFloutist•1h ago
> and is why unlike states around it that have 50/50 default custody Ohio remains 100% default custody to the mother in over 85% of divorces and with sole custody to just one parent.

How is the biggest affect of judges corruptly ruling in favor of attorneys that contributed to their campaigns that default custody tends to go 100% to moms?

Default custody is what happens when one side fails to file their claim before the deadline. How is that possibly affected by judicial corruption?

If the judges are always ruling in favor of lawyers that donate more to them, how are mothers always winning? Are they just that much better at choosing the lawyers that donated correctly?

>what they've done to a generation of young people and millennial fathers is pure evil.

Again, is the bias anti-father, or is it financially motivated? Naively, before the divorce proceedings play out, I would expect the fathers to on average have access to more money and be more able to afford the expensive corrupt lawyers. The mechanisms your claiming don't really make sense, and seem to contradict one another.
