Show HN: I built a local AI assistant as a browser extension (zero cloud)

https://github.com/NativeMindBrowser/NativeMindExtension
3•kaylakay•6mo ago
Hi HN,

We’ve just launched NativeMind — a fully private, on-device AI assistant browser extension. It runs locally via Ollama and connects to any model you want.

So it lives in your browser (currently Firefox and Chromium), works across tabs, supporting workflows like search, summarization, translation, and general Q&A.

Note: Still experimenting with broader features. Suggestions are very welcome!

Just gave it a try—really impressed. One of my biggest frustrations with most AI assistants has been privacy concerns and rate limits. Running locally and connecting to your own model solves both elegantly.

Also love that it works across tabs. I often research in multiple tabs and other tools would lose context or break—this one has been solid so far. Looking forward to seeing more automation features in future updates!

Big thanks! Totally hear you on the privacy and context stuff—it’s why we built it this way from the start. Super glad it’s working solidly for you.

This is perfect for someone like me who really cares about privacy. I never know what AI services might do with my data, so I truly appreciate this privacy-first, fully local design approach. Going to try it out right away.

Thanks! If there’s anything missing you wish it could do, let us know :)
