Those numbers are sadly an undercount.

Sources: July 29, 2025, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported 60,000+ fatalities, including around 31% children.

Independent research suggests the real death toll could be far higher. A Lancet study estimated 64,260 deaths from traumatic injuries between October 2023 and June 2024 alone, possibly rising to 70,000+ by October 2024, with women, children and elderly representing nearly 60% .

A survey by Nature suggests around 84,000 deaths by early January 2025.

The Economist estimates the undercount could be 46–107% higher than official figures, suggesting between 77,000 and 109,000 deaths, or 4–5% of Gaza’s pre-war population

True, this is mentioned in the above. Also notable because doubt has been cast in some quarters on the GHM's trustworthiness
asdefghyk•6mo ago
RE ....on the GHM's trustworthiness...

I understand they are controlled by Hamas ?

So it is implied they (Gaza Health Ministry GHM) would be seeking to reduce the number of Hamas fighter deaths that are in the count.

Youth combatants ( aged below 18 year old ) would be included in Child count.

I saw a article that used demographics to question and analyze the count, Can not find it now.

On another note Ive noted Media outlets tend to publish articles supporting one side or the other.

It seems all? sides hate each other and want to kill all the other side(s) It seems to me the situation going back decades will not allow fighting to stop

zhengiszen•6mo ago
It already has been debunked multiple times Gaza health ministry are solid and validated by UN and also by Israel...

Israel account of lies upon lies upon fabrications is also a reality you failed to mention.

asdefghyk•6mo ago
Why does not GHM give breakdown of combatants ( Hamas fighters, youth combatants 17 and 17 yo ) and civilians ) - probably because it does not support Hamas? Also In at least one situation UNrwra members where found to be harboring hostage's? UN seems to have their own agenda.

Remember the first casualty in War is truth, se we need to be suspicious of anything. coming from both sides is my opinion.

Look at the child that was on media front page around the world - reported by MULTIPLE media organizations as being food shortage suffer - when it was pointed out that was not the actual situation

There is criticism of Israel, but have not seem criticism of Hamas. Why? Hamas Command centers under hospital, weapons stored at school, They seem not to care at all about local Gaza people on the ground. In fact it is reported some Gaza people been executed for criticism of Hamas ?

zhengiszen•6mo ago
Bias, double standard, you name it, a majority of western media adopts the Israeli media language (or propaganda or hasbara) by default. It comes with a price : reiterated multiple times people tend to remember lies/fabrications and tend to believe social media in place.

See TikTok role in the genocide and its targeting by US pro-Zionist politicians.

Some may boast that Israel can now really qualify as a real western country : it has its own genocide/ethnic cleansing but it is a democracy so it is pardoned.

I like how (Bezos' owned) Washington Post synthesizes the current situation of morale bankruptcy perfectly : "Democracy Dies in Darkness"
