They’re building Pay by Bank into their app, which will use US instant payment rails (RTP and FedNow) to request and facilitate payments much more inexpensively than via credit card rails and trimmings (like Apple Pay) bolted on top.

I hadn’t used cash in 3 weeks. Last week I was at a Walmart, full cart, get to the register and found no support for Apple Pay. Now some poor staff member has to put all that stuff back on the shelf, and next time Target is my go-to.
