Hey HN. We’re two friends that love reading. We have an enormous backlog of books, blogs, and research papers but often lack the domain expertise and time to get through it all.

So we built Bitter, an AI reader that helps us quickly understand complicated books and papers. We’ve found it incredibly useful for skimming through long books / papers but then diving deep into the parts that seem especially interesting.

Currently, Bitter lets you: Upload a PDF or add any webpage/PDF through a URL Highlight text for instant explanations Click section headers to get a quick summary

Instead of a chat UI, the focus is on the content and the AI is integrated in more ambient ways. We’re more interested in “AI helps me as I read” rather than “AI reads for me”.
