As an Italian, I would welcome some safe nuclear in the mix but:
- we have a history of inefficiencies and bribery in public sector investments that I personally find frightening if paired with nuclear and what could go wrong
- more importantly, Italy is seismically unstable and I doubt there would be many places that could be 100% safe. Sure, Japan does it, but even Japan couldn’t prevent Fukushima. On top of that, accounting for all the geological analysis needed is a sunken cost that would give us an insane bill for a project like this one.
- we have tons of sun, wind, and geothermal potential. Why not invest even more in this?
