When we were looking at used BEVs here in Sweden the salespeople joked(?) that customers were questioning why they even stocked used Teslas.

Maybe they can sell them here: https://www.military-antiques-stockholm.com/

No surprise there. And no, it's not just due to Elon's antics - Tesla has been locked by a serious labor dispute for well over a year now [1] that quickly evolved to include solidarity strikes in Norway [2].

European countries generally don't like American hire-and-fire and other labor practices. Musk made it so much worse all on his own, and labor unions are pretty powerful when you piss them off too much.

Reputation aside they ended up winning that particular fight.
mschuster91•6mo ago
The thing is, the reputation loss is precisely why they're in the position they are. Musk's antics alone, okay. The union dispute, okay. Either of these, Tesla could survive. But not both at once.

That’s quite the confident statement

Per the article, BYD and Polestar sales are off as well.

Perhaps this story should really be about why EV sales seem dramatically lower. Was there some change in laws, economic conditions, etc?

nabla9•6mo ago
EVs are doing fine. Best selling cars are Volkswagen, Volvo, Kia, Skoda, Audi in that order.

Audi has three E-TRON models and every one of them sells better than Tesla.

> Perhaps this story should really be about why EV sales seem dramatically lower.

That would be because the article is poorly written, in that it only lists six brands, three of them very obscure. BEV sales are up relative to July 2024: https://mobilitysweden.se/statistik/Nyregistreringar_per_man...

That is, EV sales aren't lower, they're higher.

Also, Polestar sales are up year on year. I'd be reluctant to read to much into _month to month_ fluctuations.
