Canada's Ontario gov't cancels $100M Starlink contract

Canada or other nation states relying on private companies, especially US based and Musk owned, for critical infrastructure does seem unwise.

Plenty of other examples contradict this but comms is a fundamental component.

up-n-atom•6mo ago
What’s idiotic is Canada has TeleSat which was established by the Canadian Government in 1969, although it’s private today. It’s also headquartered in Ottawa so I don’t know how the provincial government is ignorant of its existence. But this is a provincial government that has a proven record of corruption and in all likelihood was bribed by Starlink.
inemesitaffia•6mo ago
Have you used Telesat before?
latchkey•6mo ago
If I was one of those 15,000 remote communities, I'd just buy it myself. Starlink is game changing technology that actually works. Politicizing it is lame.
