Hi HN! I just launched Uni-IP, a marketplace for university-developed technologies with tailored diligence tools. Think of it as a way to finally make university IP easily discoverable, searchable, and actually usable in real-life application.
I've spent time in undergrad in the intersection of business and academia. Spending all 4 years working in research labs (covering drug discovery & healthcare AI), and my summers in investing roles (ranging from early-stage VC to biopharma M&A/licensing in big pharma).
Across my experiences, I kept hearing the same thing from VCs, tech transfer offices, and researchers, there’s tons of high-potential science sitting in university IP portals, but they’re impossible to navigate, poorly marketed, and it takes weeks to filter/diligence for what technologies are actually breakthroughs of any importance.
So I built Uni-IP to be a tool in consolidating all this unstructured information:
- Hosts 19k+ technologies from 20+ universities (and growing, which makes this the largest database of university IP technologies to date)
- Uses research-tailored NLP + research APIs to auto-generate diligence reports (competitive landscape, relevant patents, papers, etc.)
- Uses NLP to automatically classify technologies into breakthrough categories
- Makes it 10x easier to find, compare, and understand tech coming out of universities
Right now we’re focused on life sciences and deep tech. I would love feedback from anyone who’s worked in research, investing, or has tried to license IP before. And open to collabs with folks building around innovation, search, or AI + research!
