If Mark Zuckerberg's vision of the future is "get everyone to wear glasses or visors" he's just gonna have a hard time.

As hard a time as getting everybody to be glued to a smartphone 24/7? It took only 20-25 years for that to happen; before that, it simply wasn't a thing.

Screens have been popular since the first time they were effectively used to display moving pictures with a projector, "I want this, but small and in my pocket" was reflected as long ago as the original Dick Tracy comics and the original Star Trek. It's not like Apple invented the smartphone and then tried to shove it down everyone's throats.
Meanwhile Zuckerberg and 'Meta' seem to have a new fixation every few years. Last time it was 'The Metaverse' and crypto (and VR) and now that crypto is a dirty word for most people and 'The Metaverse' turned out to be the train wreck people thought it would be... it's just the VR. He's spent billions trying to convince people that they want what he wants them to be engaging with, and the market keeps telling him that they don't want it.
In case you're wondering that sort of feedback is what the meaning of, 'The Customer Is Always Right' really means. If you keep telling a market they definitely want your expensive new thing, and they keep not buying it... they're right, you're wrong.

It would be nice to have an alternative to iOS and Android. But only if it is truly open, privacy first, and doesn’t have walled gardens.

I know this maybe sounds luddite-ish or anti future, but I really can't see anything supplanting the screen you hold in your hand. Maybe lots of new ways to do a screen you hold in your hand, but people like holding a screen in their hand and like watching cat videos. Like people REALLY like that.

Maybe screen on your eyes(AR glasses like Zuck wants) or chip in your brain.
