This is business as usual in banana republics around the world. Apple does business all over the world. They deal with this stuff all the time. Americans are just uncomfortable that America is now behaving like the countries they mock.

Americans generally don't mock those countries.
What Americans are uncomfortable with is that this corruption has become so accepted in the US government that it's being proudly put on public display.
