This is exactly how the Russians negotiate.

https://x.com/United24media/status/1724833764088365280

Donald Trump stands no chance; he has no idea what he is dealing with.

tim333•6mo ago
Krasnov has been dealing with the Russians for ~40 years. I think he has an idea.
avmich•6mo ago
In general he's not particularly good with having ideas, and this particular might get too hard as well.
lazyeye•6mo ago
We need to get the people commenting on Hacker News running the negotations.

Just imagine what could be achieved then......

type0•6mo ago
yeah, not a completely bad idea since your average hn commenter is more competent than Trump it could bring some improvement. It's heresy, I know, but maybe even your average reddit user could be a better negotiator
burnt-resistor•6mo ago
I second this emotion so long as the delegation isn't overloaded with too many unprincipled, overpaid libertarians and contains some folks who read and watch Malcolm Nance.
lazyeye•5mo ago
I dunno...I dont think Ive seen a bunch of more clueless people than in the HN comment section.

Of course there are lots of equally clueless people elsewhere but what makes HN dangerous is the people really think they know.

There will be no war, if I will get Sudetenland

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_Agreement

Russian defeat in Ukraine is equal to Russian defeat in first Chechnya war. Complete humiliation and Russians are going to try to conquer Ukraine again. And I have used word "defeat" on purpose, because anything else than a complete control of Ukrainian state is a defeat for Russia.

scrubs•6mo ago
And what happens if trump+putin work a deal out and Ukraine says no? Who has Ukraine's back?
type0•6mo ago
Since Ukrainians don't give up their territories without fight Trump could give him Alaska instead when they meet there. I'm certain he'll be also pleased with that and then could focus on peaceful recolonisation of those historically Russian territories instead of this costly war in Ukraine. After that we could confidently reward Trump with Nobel Peace Price

Ukraine should ask for its nukes back. Just in case the peace doesn’t hold and “some invader” needs their nose bloodied next time.
Jimmc414•6mo ago
Ukraine inherited ~1,900 nuclear warheads when the USSR collapsed but none of the launch codes or operational command systems controlled from Moscow. The warheads required regular replacement of tritium and other components with short half-lives. Post-Chernobyl Ukraine wanted little to do with this responsibility, but in hindsight it seems like a massive strategic mistake for them to give away a massive international bargaining chip in exchange for security assurances that proved worthless when tested in the Budapest Memorandum.
