Ask HN: Do people with solipsism syndrome see humans as no better than AIs?

3•amichail•6mo ago
Presumably, the fact that AIs have no subjective experience doesn’t matter to them, since they don’t care about the subjective experience (if any) of other humans.

Really hard to say. I've avoid people IRL for extended periods of time for the past ~15 years but still retain a sense of theory of mind, boundaries, and appreciation for the differences in values, motivations, and beliefs. Productive socializing usually means navigating ambiguity, not imposing inflexible worldview bullshit.

I swear at Siri and tell Alexa to STFU, which works. AI agents aren't anywhere close to having egos, emotional memories, or agency.

zahlman•6mo ago
I have to wonder: if you indeed believe that reality is not external to your mind (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solipsism_syndrome), then why are your submissions to HN dominated by reports of unpleasant things going on in the world and calls to action (https://news.ycombinator.com/submitted?id=burnt-resistor)? Why not just imagine a better world for yourself?
