The article doesn't make clear if Miran is a true believer like Noem, Navarro and Rubio, or someone like Stephen Miller, an ideologue who uses Trump to get what they believe. It hints at the latter.

Also unclear if Miran realizes he's going to take the fall for Trump if/when tariffs cause problems.
