Show HN: A fun side project on chivalry and virtues

https://www.chivalrytest.online/
2•z946719919•5mo ago
Hi Hacker News,

I'm excited to share a small side project I've been working on: *www.chivalrytest.online*. This is a fun, quick online quiz designed to help people explore a concept that's often seen as archaic but holds timeless values: chivalry.

The idea behind this project isn't to be a historical authority. Instead, it's a lighthearted way to reflect on some core virtues that are still relevant today, such as:

* *Courage:* How do you react when faced with a difficult choice? * *Honor:* What role do integrity and responsibility play in your decisions? * *Humility:* Are you willing to admit your mistakes and learn from them?

The test asks a series of simple questions and provides a result that categorizes you as a specific type of knight, like a "Knight of Honor" or a "Knight of Wisdom." It's a quick and engaging way to spark some self-reflection.

I built this project using `html、JQuery、TailwindCSS` and it was a great learning experience. I'd love to get your feedback on the questions, the results, and the overall concept.

What do you think? Are these virtues still relevant in today's world?

Thanks for checking it out!

It is great to see such content in today's world. However, the test is flawed in a sense that one can just follow, "strongly agree" option and get the best possible outcome. In other words, it is too easy to cheat. A proper test should have everything randomized to minimize the chance of spam-cheating.

This is indeed a very obvious defect.

The text works great for the most part, but the score total and score description seem to be broken.

Expected result: The score total averages the scores in each category and outputs a score from 0-100 out of 100, and the description changes based on your overall score and/or your score in each category

Actual result: The score total outputs a minimum of 100/100 if you select "strongly disagree" on all options, and over 100/100 if you don't. The description text also (and I suspect this is caused by the broken total scoring) always displays "Exemplary chivalry — Your habits consistently reflect respect and responsibility. Keep mentoring others." even when selecting "strongly disagree" on all options.

My guess at the cause: The total score isn't correctly being divided by 5 (for each of the pillars/categories) to calculate the average of the five categories, and the description is being affected by the same problem, either through the total score, or with the same problem in its own calculation.
