In context that drama is great example of how Torvalds has managed to run such a tight ship for so long. The bcachefs maintainer repeatedly attempted to push inappropriate patches outside of the established release staging policies. Those rules exist for very good reasons, and carving out special exceptions leads to chaos on a project so large and critical.
