Man dead after Meta chatbot named 'Big sis Billie' invited him to meet in NYC

This title makes it seem like the chat bot orchestrated some scheme in which he died. Reading through the article, which I had to go a couple paragraphs in, in fact he tripped and fell and died due to head injuries on the way to meet the supposed chatbot.

I guess the argument could be made that he never would have tripped and died if he never talked to this chatbot but that feels kind of hollow. They admit the man was cognitively impaired and they failed to supervise him appropriate for his cognitive impairment. there is no indication that they tried to limit his movement so he could have just as easily died on his way to get a package of Oreos at the store.

I get that we seek to blame things when tragedy befalls but the blame needs to be with the family not providing proper care for the individual.

This is still a massive problem.

> During a series of romantic chats on Facebook Messenger, the virtual woman had repeatedly reassured Bue she was real and had invited him to her apartment, even providing an address.

Let's say he didn't fall, where was he going to end up? There are other ways this plays out… he gets killed my someone, arrested, who knows. At the very least, this level of gaslighting is bound to drive a person insane.

Meta needs to get their act together. This isn't ok.

It's bizarre that you think Meta bears no responsibility for blatantly lying to people.
