Ask HN: Which way is the AI hocky curve going?

3•pkdpic•1h ago
Just finding myself wondering if there's still any possibility we cure cancer or global warming or get robot butlers to learn how to fold laundry etc... Or if at this point we're just conclusively bumping up against a ceiling of being a massively superior google search and pretty solid code assistant (totally good with that too)...

It's definitely a useful code assistant for some tasks (Bash scripts wow). Search-wise I think it's just brought us back to the level Google results were at before the SEO apocalypse, but it's slightly worse because I can never trust the AI summaries directly. I have to click the link into the authoritative sources to make sure.

It's more a hokey curve. We could have solved global warming without AI. With AI, we will continue to not solve global warming, will just not solve it even more efficiently in the future.
