You can find academics, nerds, makers, artists and interesting people anywhere (yes even on the hellscape of mainstream social media) but Mastodon doesn't have the dark patterns and algorithmic manipulation, and all of the good stuff hasn't been crowded out by influencers, bots and toxic assholes.
