I had reason to use the IRS web site 4 years ago. It was fast, worked with Firefox (uBlock origin) on Linux, and it had exemplary user interface design. No rubbish "flat design" where you don't know what area of the screen to click, a clean color scheme and clear ways to proceed.

If this happens the IRS website will end up worse. AirBnB website is ok, but not great.

My worry with this is maintenance. The more lipstick they put on these things, the higher the maintenance costs and more frequent the issues. I want the government to have easy to use sites, but I also value simplicity in the architecture, so it’s maintainable and robust.

If the primary goal is about how it looks, the corner cutting will come in the more important areas as budgets are squeezed.
