I don't resent middle managers at all. I value them. They are the firewall keeping upper management from interfering with my work too much, advocate for the team to upper management, and deal with a ton of other bureaucratic nonsense for me. They help to maintain team harmony and keep everyone rowing in the same direction.
Good ones, anyway. I resent bad ones, but not because they're middle managers.
