I kept trying to search for is it down sites, and kept getting errors. I think that was a good indicator that my search engine is down.

What makes this frustrating is that on iOS with Kagi set as the default search engine, Google and DDG redirect to Kagi. :d

In the Kagi extension settings you can pick which search engine it hijacks. I pick Ecosia. The set that as your default search engine in Safari. Kagi is your default, but the others are still available if/when needed.
Side note: Kagi seems to be back up.

Yeah since I've beeen a Kagi user for so long, I think I have multiple Kagi apps (they changed how they did things at some point iirc) and I probably need to go through and reset everything so that I can use Google/Duck when needed. Usually not an issue, but when Kagi's down, I usually fumble around trying to find what works.

Yeah, they definitely changed something at some point. I actually changed mine when I made the comment. I remember setting it up in the past when you had to pick just one, and was frustrated when it took all of them over. I assumed it was a bug, but the comment here made me go check and sure enough, it now defaults to taking over all engines. Since I never really need to check other engines when using Kagi, it didn’t impact me enough to look before. I’ve seen 2 outages where it’s been a problem, but they were both pretty short, so I didn’t get to the point of looking for a work around.
