Ask HN: Redis V8 vs. competition? (Valkey, Dragonfly, etc.)

3•punkpeye•5mo ago
I cannot find any up to date resources that would document how does Redis v8 performance compare to the likes of Valkey and Dragonfly.

I was wondering if anyone did any independent benchmarks?

Comments

roscas•5mo ago
Redis can change again at any time. Then at least we get to use Valkey.

Like Vmware and Oracle, we never know what is going dark or not.

So unless you are creating a product in a company where you need support, I would go Valkey.

But why benchmark it against Valkey? Are they not the same?

stefanos82•5mo ago
It's weird that you did not find this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hDvWVJtljE

Anton is doing an incredible job with his tests at such level, even antirez commented about his performance findings and have informed the dev team to provide possible fixes in Redis 8.

punkpeye•5mo ago
so this gives a good reason between valkey and redis, but what about dragonfly? some benchmarks show crazy advantage over Redis (and I assume valkey too)
punkpeye•5mo ago
switched to Dragonfly and can confirm that the throughput makes a noticeable difference to the user experience
