Most Trump tariffs ruled illegal in blow to White House trade policy

Overnight, the USA has intentionally changed from a bastion of free market capitalism to a highly restrictive market where trade is controlled by one person.

This is the only example in the modern era where a superpower has willingly chosen to emulate a 3rd world country.

And very few people seem to realize (yet) the economic implications that are about to play out.

krapp•5mo ago
The US never practiced free market capitalism, no nation ever has. Every US administration has interfered with the markets and played favorites when it was deemed necessary. "free markets" only exist in the naive fever dreams of libertarians and children.

The only difference with Trump in this case is that his interference is based on entirely on his ego and Grok spreadsheets, there isn't even the barest hint of a rational strategy behind his actions. The mad king just decides China gets hit with a bazillion percent tariff today because his stummy hurt, or whatever.

And this is everyone's daily reminder that the House literally changed the definition of a day so that Trump would be able to do extend his emergency powers indefinitely, and that SCOTUS made it impossible to prosecute him for anything he does while in office. Jan. 6th was just a circus, the election and establishment of a "unitary executive" was the actual coup.
