An often repeated (many variants) joke in rest-of-the-world comms is that nobody minds much if the Chinese government finds your pornstash through Huawei, it's the black chamber in the US IX and US backdoors in Cisco and Juniper we worry about.

I feel like this is less likely a serious tech related evaluation / advice as it is just nationalist goading.

Granted with any leadership ... never know what these guys might do when it comes to "I do what I want, I'm in charge" when it comes to security.
