Whatever Happened to BMW's Laser Headlights?

The US headlight regulations are too stringent. Why 250 meters? What if I want a kilometer of illumination because I live in a rural area? Why can’t I have the advanced matrix lighting European cars can have?
stevage•5mo ago
> a pair of headlights for the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ showed up on eBay for $162,000 last year. But the Chiron was a hypercar that cost about $3 million, meaning those headlights are half of a percent of the car's as-new value.

Um. I'm not sure I'd trust much of the rest of this article.

FireBeyond•5mo ago
Yeah, one of the section titles is "Why aren't laser headlights allowed in the US?"

Uh, they are. I'm driving a car with them right now (well, it's in my driveway). A 2021 Audi RS 5.
