The next chapter for Atlassian and our customers

Summary: Atlassian announces the end-of-life of Data Center, with the following dates:

- March 30, 2026: Sales of new Data Center subscriptions and Marketplace apps will end for new customers.

- March 30, 2028: Last date for existing customers to purchase new Data Center licenses, Marketplace apps, and license expansions.

- March 28, 2029: Data Center end of life. All Data Center licenses and associated Marketplace app licenses will expire and become read-only.

In June 2025, their revenue was as follows:

Cloud: $3,447,427,000

DC: $1,467,167,000

Marketplace: $300,710,000

Total: $5,215,304,000

This was inevitable but the way they did it with increasing the pricing across the self-hosted options the last couple of years is almost criminal.

In 2024 they canceled the "Server" products and at the same time massively increased the "Data Center" license fees. So everybody was forced to move to Cloud or just pay an enormous amount on DC licenses.

Then they increased the DC licenses again this year (February) only by now forcing all DC customers to move to Cloud.

I've read it many times here on HN but I hope some proper Jira/Confluence alternatives setup in the upcoming two years to fill the void.

originalvichy•5mo ago
In this current geopolitical climate, this move is a disaster for anyone who does not fully trust the US or other nation-states with data surveillance.
eiclu•5mo ago
I wonder whether the people wo are still on DC in 2025 after all the price hikes would ever switch to cloud. They probably have good reasons why they won't move their infrastructure out of their own data centers.

If you are looking for a self-hosted Confluence alternative, I am building Docmost - an enterprise-ready wiki solution.

We have support for spaces, real-time collaboration, built-in diagrams (drawio, mermaid, excalidraw), comments, groups/permissions and more.
